General Care

Never leave any wooden or metal surface wet or dirty. Wood will warp, and metal will rust.

Never use a dishwasher to clean any RedBeard product. The heat from the dishwasher will destroy it.

Never leave any wooden product in direct sunlight. Over time, UV light will break down the colors of your product, and cause them to fade.

Cutting Boards

For longevity, you will need to periodically refinish your cutting boards and serving paddles with a food-safe finish.

RedBeard recommends our very own Official Cutting Board Wax, a homemade, small-batch, organic beeswax and food-grade mineral oil finish meant for our cutting boards and serving paddles.

To clean your cutting boards and serving paddles, RedBeard recommends using regular soap and rinsing your products with hot water. After finishing, wipe your products clean with a dry cloth, and then allow to dry upright to prevent water from pooling on the cutting surfaces.

Cutlery

RedBeard knife handles will periodically need to be refinished. RedBeard recommends boiled linseed oil, an inexpensive and easy-to-apply wood finish found at any Lowe's or Home Depot.

When applying boiled linseed oil, first apply liberally to the entire handle, work the oil into the wood's surface, and then wait two to three hours before wiping away any excess.

For stubborn grime like fingerprints or other oil-based stains, RedBeard recommends wiping down the blade with a cloth damp with acetone. Do not use nail polish remover for this process unless it is specifically labeled as acetone and is explicitly labeled as free of any additives.

Coaster Sets

RedBeard coaster sets are finished with exterior-grade liquid polyurethane, and should require no regular maintenance.

If for whatever reason they need to be refinished, RedBeard recommends Minwax’s Clear Satin One Coat Polyurethane, available at any Lowe’s or Home Depot.

When refinishing, all that is required is one thin coat on all exposed surfaces. After finishing, wait twenty four hours before handling.
